To all leftie members,
Fine warm weather with a cool breeze welcomed the lefties to The Grange Golf Club for the State Championships.
Once again it was the big three that dominated proceedings:- David Ryles, Chris Watson and David King.
The battle for supremacy was won by David Ryles, who carded an incredible 78/74 which included two birdies.
David retained the Championship Trophy by the smallest margin, from Chris Watson with a one stroke advantage.
The nett score by Chris Watson was enough to enable him to win the Nett Trophy from president Roy Seccafien, who edged out Julie Smallman on a count back.
David King, one of the big three was not to miss out either, as he won the George Hicks Trophy by returning the best four rounds over the year.
Anne Marks was the winner of the Veterans Trophy after an excellent round of 94/81. Anne also just edged out Jenny Watson, who returned a 96/76.
Overall the day turned out to be a great success with players from as far as Naracoorte and Tanunda attending the event.
Whilst conducting presentations, the president thanked The Grange Golf club for the use of its remarkable facilities.
A reminder to members that the next state event will be held at Naracoorte on the weekend of the 18th and 19th of November.
It would be nice to see as many members attend as possible, as Naracoorte presents one of the best country courses in the state.
Tee times for the event are Saturday from 11.30 am and on Sunday at 9.30 am for a shotgun start.
Terry Paech has informed us that they have a few young guns interesting in joining the division, so a good attendance could well be to our advantage.
On behalf of you all I would like to wish our members who are attending the World Championships in Melbourne all the very best of luck.
It would be good if David Ryles could pull this one off to add to his two National Titles.
The same goes for those of you heading to Canberra for the National Titles starting on Sunday 29th of October, commencing with registration and the Welcome Function.
This will be followed by the four days of golf and the Presentation Dinner on Friday evening to be held in the Sir Donald Bradman Room at the Manuka Oval.
Good golfing to all.
